Spotlight on… Shannon Emanuelle

1.      Why did you become a yoga/pilates instructor?

I started practicing yoga and pilates several years ago and it had a positive effect on my life within the first week of practice – both my mind and body felt incredible! I noticed the same change in everyone I introduced to pilates and yoga and it’s such an honour knowing that you’re inspiring a healthy and positive change in another person. Positivity is contagious and when you’re in a class, you  catch the good vibes from everyone involved. Becoming an instructor helps me to lead a positive and uplifting lifestyle and inspires me to bring out the best in others.

2.      What is your favourite pose/exercise?

Anything that takes the spine into extension – I’m always at my happiest when in an intense backbend!

3.      Which classes do you teach at RHY?

Mat Pilates Open.

4.      How long have you been an instructor?

Just over a year – I’m still at the start of an incredible journey!

5.      What is your go to snack after your practise?

Avocado for sure!

6.      How do you motivate yourself to get on your mat?

I have a few motivational quotes and sayings saved on my phone that always get me onto the mat. It always motivates me knowing that I will always feel happier after practising and that the most difficult part of any workout is getting yourself into the mat in the first place. Listening to Eye of the Tiger always motivates me to get up and move about!

7.      Top tip for Downward Dog?

Focus on sending your sit bones to the sky and your fingertips and heels through the floor.

8.      What would your advice be to beginners?

Be adventurous! Try lots of different types of yoga/pilates and decide which one works best for you. Once you’ve found the right thing for you, you’ll become hooked on it and want to do it more and more, it’s a healthy addiction!

9.      What else do you do in your spare time?

I love cooking and baking and trying lots of different healthy recipes. I also like to write – finding a comfy place in a coffee shop to sit, listen to music and write is one of my favourite ways to relax and reflect.

10. Where is your favourite travel destination?

Marbella, Spain. The sky is always clear, the beaches, mountains and towns are beautiful and it’s home to my favourite cafe and organic shop (Organic Market & Food Marbella).
