Why did you become a yoga/pilates instructor?

I became a Yoga teacher because people asked me to teach them…. it kinda snowballed from there.

What is your favourite pose/exercise?

My practice is Ashtanga Yoga, working on that is plenty of exercise for me and it has plenty of poses to practice. Picking a favourite one is difficult, each of them have something that I enjoy and something I enjoy less. Today I enjoyed back bending.

Which classes do you teach at RHY?

I teach Mysore Self Practice Ashtanga, Ashtanga led classes, Mindful Flow, Yin, Yin/Yang, Red Hot, Vinyasa Flow.

How long have you been an instructor?

I have been sharing my knowledge for about 10 years now.

What is your go to snack after your practise?

I prefer not to snack immediately after practice, if I have something it is a banana.

How do you motivate yourself to get on your mat?

Some days with ease, other days with less ease! I know that after I have practiced (whatever it looks like and for however long) I feel better for the rest of the day.

Top tip for Downward Dog?

Big question! Totally depends on where you are in your journey….. Less bendy people generally need to bend their knees a little and spread their fingers to make good connection with the ground…… More bendy people may need to slightly round their back and engage Uddiyana bandha to help keep stability in the shoulders and strength in the ‘core’

What would your advice be to beginners?

Practice regularly – little and often is better for you than a big crash course week and then 2 weeks of recovery (See how to get on your mat from Question 6). Practice being kind to yourself on the mat and in this way you will enjoy it and hopefully have a yoga practice that lasts for the rest of your life. Don’t underestimate the power of controlling your breath. Enjoy the journey and not the destination, the asana will come and go but the Yoga will always be there…. Remember that Yoga is not only about the poses it can change your life if you let it…….

What else do you do in your spare time?

I really enjoy listening to Music : Opera and a good Disco tune. I also enjoy walking in the countryside and discovering hidden plants like Orchids in a meadow.
